Feathers and tea for cancer
Feathers, boas, masks and festive colours were the order of the day.
THE 10th annual Mum’s Mail High Tea, in association with The Sunflower Fund, was held on Friday, 28 August at the Greyville Exhibition and Events Company.
This was its biggest event yet, with 800 guests who went all out to dress up for the ‘Carnival Kaleidoscope’ theme.
Feathers, boas, masks and festive colours were the order of the day, with Karen Monk-Klijnstra as the MC and Lisa Bobbert as the keynote speaker; entertainment from the Glitter Girls; stilt walkers; dancers; face-painters; and aerial acrobats. The event was guaranteed to be a huge success.
The event featured a delicious breakfast, decadent sweets treats, goodie bags and a gift for each guest, as well as loads of retail therapy in the form of pop-up shops and a photo booth for guests to enjoy.
There were prizes for the best-dressed guest; the funkiest head-wear; the most daring table; and the best-dressed table. Raffle prizes included entertainment, fitness, pampering and home packages, and there were lots of other spot prizes as well as surprise envelopes on sale.
A total of R206 000 was raised for The Sunflower Fund towards the tissue-typing of potential bone marrow stem cell donors for inclusion on the South African Bone Marrow Registry. The more donors on the registry, the more hope patients diagnosed with leukaemia have of finding their life-saving donor match.
