Armed robbers invade Westville home

Westville SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

A WESTVILLE man was lucky to escape uninjured after he was held up in a home invasion on the morning of 21 September.

Blue Security operations manager, Brian Jackson, said a gang of six armed robbers had invaded the property in Westcliff Road at around 9.30am.

“The robbers forced open the front door and security gate and held up the resident at gunpoint. They robbed him of a cellphone, jewellery, a wallet and cash,” said Jackson.

Westville SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

Jackson added that, in a separate incident, housebreakers threw a rock through the lounge window of a property in Caversham Glen in Pinetown in the early hours of 22 September.

“The suspects climbed over a precast wall to gain entry into the property and then hurled the rock through the window before fleeing the scene. Nothing was reported stolen.”

Jackson urged residents to ensure that they have early warning intruder detection systems in place, such as an electric fence linked to a home alarm system and external beams in the garden.

“An early warning system is one of the best defences against intruders as it also buys some time to escape to a safe room in the house from where one can alert the police and your security company to the emergency,” he said.
