Police warn stokvel clubs

We are approaching the festive season, when everyone would like to have a good time, and even those did not save will be expecting the same.

AS the festive season is approaching, police have issued a warning as cases of robbery increase.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Lt Bongumusa Manqele, said they urge all stokvel clubs not to withdraw large amounts of money from banks.

“They should at least make arrangements with the banks to transfer money to the accounts of the club members. This could reduce incidents in which people are robbed of large amounts of money.”

Manqele said many companies are employing temporary staff during this period, and the SAPS urged them not to withdraw large amounts of money in order to pay their employees.

“Employers should not keep large amounts of money in their possession,” he added.
