HEADMASTER of the high school at Thomas More College, Allan Chandler, will be retiring after serving 20 years at the school.
He started at TMC in 1996 and during his time there he as filled the roles of deputy head, senior master and headmaster of the high school.
“The school’s ethos of promoting the individual and accepting all people for who they are is very dear to my heart,” said Chandler.
He graduated from the University of KZN in 1974 with a BA HED. He was then posted to Durban High School.
“I spent 20 very happy years there. I taught history, coached cricket and rugby and produced and directed three musicals, rising from a level one teacher to subject head, to HOD, to deputy and finally, senior deputy head.”
He was promoted to the position of headmaster at Rossburgh High School, where he said, “I learnt more about education and life at Rossburgh than in all my other years in education.”
He has been married to Angela, a nursing sister, for 36 years and has one son, a mechanical engineer who lives in Johannesburg.
He feels very blessed to have been part of the success of Thomas More College but is looking forward to enjoying the natural beauty and wildlife of our country in his retirement.
“I hope that the wonderful ethos of the school remains intact in the years to come.”
