Monkey bludgeoned to death

The male vervet monkey was beaten to death with a large hedge cutter and the handle of a garden pick.

On Monday, 30 November, Inspector Petra Abrams from the Kloof and Highway SPCA, received a frantic call from a lady on their emergency phone to report that a monkey had been beaten to death in her neighbour’s garden in Crestholme.

Inspector Abrams and Kerrie Andrews arrived at the scene to find the gruesome discovery of a young male vervet monkey that had been brutally beaten to death with a large hedge cutter and the handle of a garden pick.

The employee admitted to beating the monkey to death. When asked why he would do such a thing, all he said was “sorry”!

It is unclear at this stage how the monkey was caught, investigations will continue as the SPCA builds a case against the accused. The barbaric way in which this animal was bludgeoned to death, has left the inspectors deeply disturbed.

A case of Animal Cruelty has been opened and the SPCA is hoping justice will be served..

‘It is so sad that this poor defenceless monkey’s life was of no importance to the person who beat it to death so brutally, we will never condone animal cruelty’ said Barbara Patrick of the Kloof and Highway SPCA.
