Fencing makes for happy dogs and owners

A few months ago, notices were put up stating that dogs would have to be kept on leads or leashes, but this has been resolved with the erection of the new fence.

DOGS and their owners are grateful to the eThekwini Parks and Gardens Department for putting up a fence around the dog park at the Westville Scouts Bowl, making for a safer experience for all.

According to Jean Senogles of the Westville Conservancy, owners have been walking their dogs in the park for more than 30 years and it is a great place for dogs and their owners to socialise with one another.

“As far as I know, this is the only off-lead park in the greater Durban area. Dogs need to be able to be off the leads in order to socialise with other dogs and on a Sunday there can be up to 40 dogs and owners at a time, all socialising and enjoying themselves,” said Senogles.

A few months ago, notices were put up stating that dogs would have to be kept on leads or leashes, but this appears to have been resolved with the erection of the new fence.

Seongles said she was full of praise for Ram Ramadeen, Pinetown and surrounds district manager for eThekwini Parks and Gardens, who had been instrumental in getting the area fenced, and that this had been happily received by the doggie community.

Dog walkers at the park all concurred that the new fencing lessened the stress of dogs getting on to the surrounding roads and has made for a more relaxing experience at the park.
