4 critically injured in M7 snarl-up
A specialised rescue unit arrived at the scene and found that the crumpled remains of the vehicles including the caravan of holidaymakers that were on their way down the south coast obstructed the entire eastbound lanes.
FOUR people sustained serious injuries while the another escaped with minor injuries in a crash on the M7 east-bound lanes on Wednesday, 23 December.
Netcare 911 paramedics and their specialised rescue unit arrived at the scene and found that the crumpled remains of the vehicles, including a caravan of holidaymakers who were on their way down to the South Coast, obstructing the entire east-bound lanes. Two people were still trapped in the wreckage of a bakkie.
After stabilising the injured, it was found that four people sustained serious injuries while one escaped with minor injuries. The rescue officer used the jaws of life to extricate the injured. After he removed the door and roof from the bakkie, paramedics were able to mobilise the man and remove him from the wreckage.
Paramedics stabilised all the injured before they transported them to various hospitals in the area.
