Man arrested with unlicensed gun

the gun will be sent for tests to determine whether it was used in the commission of other crimes.

PINETOWN SAPS Rapid Response Unit arrested a-23-year-old man for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Lt Bongumusa Manqele, Pinetown SAPS communications officer said it is alleged that on Friday, 1 January at noon police were doing their routine patrol duties when they saw a suspicious looking man along Caversham Road in Pinetown.

“Upon searching the man, police found an Astra pistol with eleven rounds of ammunition,” he said.

The man was arrested and charged for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Manqele added that the gun will be sent for tests to determine whether it was used in the commission of other crimes in the province.
