Two arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms

The suspects were part of gangs who were involved in business robberies, house robberies and fraud.

AFTER the  National Mobile Train Unit conducted an operation in KwaSanti in Mariannhill on Thursday, 11 February, two unlicensed firearms were found.

The police followed up information about the suspects, who were in possession of unlicensed firearms, and proceeded to the said place, where they found two suspects (aged 36 and 37).

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman, Major Thulani Zwane said, “Upon searching the houses, the police found an unlicensed shotgun and a 9mm pistol with two rounds of ammunition.”

Investigations revealed that the suspects were part of gangs who were involved in business robberies, house robberies and fraud.

They will appear in the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court soon.

“We would like to warn all criminals that we are ready and eager to arrest anyone who is not abiding by the law, without fear or favour,” said the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lt-Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
