Volunteer counselors wanted at Bellair

Volunteers must be prepared to be called in at anytime, day or night.

THE Trauma Unit at Bellair SAPS is in need of volunteers from the area to assist with trauma counselling.

Chairman of the unit, Capt Jennifer Goosen, said volunteers must be prepared to be called in at any time, day or night. “We are looking for male and female volunteers who would give up an hour or two of their day upon request,” she explained.

She said that while it would be an advantage to have bilingual volunteers, they are not too fussy about who is willing to lend a hand. “We want our victims to be able to express themselves in the language they feel most comfortable speaking, but we welcome anyone to volunteer. We are not age- or gender-specific either,” said Goosen.

Volunteers are to ideally be from the Bellair areas, which include Seaview and Mount Vernon, to avoid travelling long distances to offer their services. Contact Capt Goosen on 074 263 7325.
