Collect a mug for Easter campaign
The Robin Hood Foundation have branched out this year to include the elderly in its Easter campaign.
THIS year The Robin Hood Foundation urges the Highway community to collect Easter eggs and coffee cups for its Mugs and Mallow Easter campaign.
This year, the foundation will take the fun outreach activity a little bit further by including the children and the elderly in its visits. The Robin Hood Foundation will be visiting The Reunion School for cerebral palsied children with a Easter Fun Day as well as blessing over 500 grannies and grandpas with an Easter Tea and gifting them all with a new coffee or tea mug filled with marshmallow eggs.
Robyn Keulder, who came up with the Mugs and Mallows idea, said, “I’ve been along to various homes for the aged during our Bless-a-Granny campaigns over the years.
“At one of the homes specifically last year I was so saddened to see the condition of the mugs that the elderly folk had to drink their tea out of. The mugs were chipped to the point that no part of the rim was smooth, some even had no handle. Their tea is something they all look forward to, and most only get one cup a day. I thought to myself, what an easy and inexpensive item to collect.
“Something we take for granted every day – a simple clean, unchipped mug or cup. Don’t we all have a cupboard full of mugs that we only use a small percentage of on a daily basis? If you are one of the few who doesn’t hoard mugs, it will cost less than R20 to buy a new one. For most, a trip to the drop-off point is all that is necessary. Pairing this campaign with Easter is great. What a wonderful way to give a small treat and the pleasure of a decent mug.”
Cindy Norcott, owner of Pro Appointments, said, “Pro Appointments is delighted to take part in the Mugs and Mallows campaign. It is such a simple way to get involved and make a difference in our community. We challenge other businesses to donate used mugs in good condition and to donate Easter eggs. There are so many people in need.”
