Kearsney presents a celebration of a madman
The show promises to touch on the old favourites with The Goons and all their madness, as well as excerpts from Spike’s War Diaries.
KEARSNEY College will present ‘Spike – The Celebration of a Madman’ as its annual school production at the school’s Henderson Hall at 7pm from 3 to 5 May.
Spike Milligan is known as the godfather of British comedy. With an immense collection of works spanning his lifetime, his gift to the world has been hours of laughter. Like many artists with a gift for comic genius, Spike suffered from manic depression, making his contribution to happiness all the more poignant.
The show promises to touch on the old favourites with The Goons and all their madness, as well as excerpts from Spike’s War Diaries. The show will also explore the other side of Spike in a frank reflection of his depression as documented through his poetry.
The talented Kearsney boys will bring Spike’s brilliance to life in an entertaining and exciting multi-media production. This roller coaster journey will find its place in the hearts of anyone with a passion for the thrill and immediacy of theatre.
So, if you are feeling nostalgic for the days of radio, jazz and tomfoolery, or if you simply need a good old-fashioned laugh, share an evening of mirth and reflection in celebration of one of the greatest comic geniuses of our time.
The Tuesday and Wednesday productions will be cinema-style seating and Thursday will be supper-theatre format. Refreshments will be on sale but picnic baskets can also be taken.
Bookings are through Computicket with tickets R50 for adults and R30 for pupils and pensioners.
