SIMEÏ Bekker, a grade 5 pupil at Thomas More College is its SPAR Star of the Month.
Simeï is passionate about swimming as she started swimming lessons at the age of 6 months, at 8 months old she could float by herself and by the age of two she could swim. Simeï swims with Kloof Swimming Club under the guidance of her coach, Nick Gray.
She was awarded the Victrix Ludorum last year and again this year. Last year at the inter-house gala, she broke two records and this year she broke three records, with one of the records being broken by eight seconds.
She swam at the Sasolburg Nationals in 2015 and won nine medals – six gold and three silver. She also broke the 100m and 200m breaststroke records.
Simeï competed at the KZN Champs and achieved medals for all her strokes and also represented KZN at the SA level 2 Champs and swam in an older age group and still won medals for her best strokes. Simeï is a very determined pupil and athlete, she works hard to achieve her goals and is now preparing for the Nationals in June this year.
