Renew your firearm licence
If the renewal is lodged late then the reasons for the delay must be provided on the application form.

HOLDERS of firearm licences who have to renew them have a window of 90 days before the expiry date to renew existing licences, according to the Malvern SAPS. If the renewal is lodged late then the reasons for the delay must be provided on the application form.
“The above applies for renewals to licenced firearm holders who have been issued with firearm licences under The Firearms Control Act 2000, Act 60 of 2000.
In the case where a person wants to renew a firearm licence but the licence has expired, that person is no longer in lawful possession of the firearm and that firearm must be surrendered to the nearest police station, said Corporate Communications Officer, W/O Radhika Marimuthu. She added that when a firearm has been surrendered in this manner, the owner will not be prosecuted.
