Local walker to complete 400 km walk across the Alps to Rome

Local school teacher, Sanette Henderson, has to average 20km per day and will have to brave the freezing cold of the St Bernard’s pass as well as the heat of the Italian summer with only a backpack.

SANETTE Henderson, a club walker with the Queensburgh Harriers, will be joining other walkers from Amawalkers to complete a 400km hike from Switzerland over the Alps through Italy to Rome, called the Via Francigena.

Henderson is a teacher at Parkside Primary School in Malvern and will complete the walk in 22 days during the June, July school holidays. She has to average 20km per day and will have to brave the freezing cold of the St Bernard’s pass as well as the heat of the Italian summer with only a backpack.

During this time she will visit ancient churches and other historical landmarks along the way. Three years ago she completed the Camino de Santiago, a similar 400km pilgrimage in Spain.
