Driver burnt as oil truck bursts in flames

The driver was transported to a specialised hospital in Durban.

VEHICLES approaching the Mariannhill Toll Plaza had to turn around as roads were closed due to a truck crash on the N3 Durban-bound near the toll plaza on Sunday, 22 May.

According to a report from Netcare 911, the scene indicated that an oil tanker and a heavy goods truck collided about a 100 metres before the arrester bed.

Netcare 911’s Chris Botha said, “Paramedics and the fire services arrived at the scene and found the highway totally obstructed with the wreckages of the truck and a burning tanker. After examining the drivers they found that one was seriously burnt while the other driver escaped uninjured.”

Paramedics treated the injured man at the scene before they transported him to a specialised hospital in Durban.
