Durban hit by protests

Motorists are warned to steer clear of the M19 Shell garage near the N2 where a SAPS vehicle and private vehicle were stoned.

MOTORISTS are encouraged to steer clear of North Coast Road this morning after protesters set a car alight.

Protest action began in various parts of Durban early this morning. Urgent messages of the serious protests were shared on social media indicating motorists and workers should be “mindful” of the protests on North Coast Road, Umgeni Road, Springfield Road, Queen Nandi Drive and Sea Cow Lake area.

Protesters have burnt tyres and in some places shops have allegedly been looted and businesses attacked. Reports of a car set alight in North Coast Road were also received.

Motorists are urged to use alternative routes or avoid the areas affected.
