Kabashini empowers women through fitness
Kubashini Moodley believes that being and staying fit does not mean having to break the bank.
WIFE, mother and licensed Zumba fitness instructor are just some of the words that best describe Kubashini Moodley. The Malvern resident is on a mission to get others to be fit and maintain a healthy lifestyle. “My goal is to inspire people of all ages and fitness levels irrespective of their affordability, to experience fitness through dance and let them see that working out can be fun while still obtaining results and to be more conscious of living a healthy lifestyle in a simple and uncomplicated way,” she said.
A confessed ‘Zumbaholic’, Moodley said she enjoyed her first class so much that she could not wait to get others on their feet, moving and shaking. “I fell in love with Zumba fitness instantly when I attended my first Zumba class at Virgin Active in 2005 – I was hooked and never missed a class. It’s a fitness exercise where dance meets fitness and also a fun and exciting way to keep fit with Latin inspired music. I love dancing, this is my passion and I couldn’t wait to share my love for Zumba and fitness with everyone. It has consumed my life since I started, and it’s contagious,” she explained.
She said her passion inspired her to motivate people to use various exercises that are within their lifestyles and income groups. Moodley believes that being and staying fit does not mean having to break the bank. “I conduct my own Zumba classes at West Park School, however, I also host free Zumba classes or fitness workshops as I have encouraged my ladies to walk or run in addition to Zumba, but most of all I don’t support strict diets, I advise my ladies to rather eat healthily and to stay away from certain foods and the reasons why they should. I also introduce challenges where I take my ladies out and introduce them to different exercises and the benefits of them,” she said.
As a working mom, she thinks that women who are in similar positions should not limit themselves. “A lot of us believe that having a career and being supermoms should be our main priority but I believe we should live long enough to be fit and healthy all the days of our lives. ‘Take care of our bodies as it’s the only place we will always live in’ – this is the motto that has afforded me, a working mum, the motivation to take care of myself as much as I do my family.”
Moodley has been involved with the Total Sports Race, Post Fun Run, Cancer Relay, Model camps, team buildings,Women’s Day events, school events and various fun days that are held at old age and children’s homes.
A free fitness workshop will be hosted to commemorate Women’s Month and to empower women of the community on Saturday, 3 September at the Chatsworth Youth Centre at 9am to 11.30am. This will be an annual event were women will be introduced to different ways of keeping fit to suit their lifestyles and financial constraints. A healthy snack will be provided and gifts will be handed out to the first 200 women that book their places. If you wish to attend or contribute to this event, contact Kubashini Moodley on 079 281 2671.
