Residents connect to repair pole

A group of Inchanga residents gathered to repair a telephone pole that was badly damaged.

AFTER numerous unsuccessful attempts to have Telkom fix a pole along Kingfisher Road in Inchanga, local residents took it upon themselves to rectify the matter.

According to Christina Long, she had attempted to have the pole fixed since Monday, 29 August. “The telephone pole was leaning badly toward the road, after numerous calls from myself and other residents, nothing was done and the pole was ready to fall onto the road,” said Long.

Long said her business depended on an operational phone line and opted to rather fix the problem without help from the telecommuications giant. “My husband and I took the matter into our own hands to rectify the problem, as we run a business and cannot afford to be without a phone.”

“With the assistance of a few residents and a tree feller, we went ahead and it took us three hours to fell the old tree that was pushing the telephone pole down. We used whatever means we had to fix the pole into a sturdy position,” concluded Long.

Telkom was contacted for a comment but none was received at the time the story was published.
