Little Mohamed fulfills his dream
Netcare 911, uShaka Marine World and Netcare uMhlanga Hospital helped fulfill the little boy's dream to see and feed a dolphin.
NETCARE 911 paramedics assisted to fulfill the dream of little Mohamed Hussain, a seven-year-old cancer patient, on Thursday, 20 October.
According to Chris Botha, spokesman for Netcare, Little Fighters Cancer Trust with the help of sponsors brought little Mohamed and his parents, from Port Elizabeth to Durban to see the dolphins, but tragedy struck., a seven-year-old cancer patient, on Thursday, 20 October.
“On their arrival in Durban, little Mohamed’s condition got so bad that he had to be admitted into the Netcare uMhlanga Hospital. His father approached the hospital manager, Mark Van Heerden and asked for help to fulfill his son’s dream. Consultations with Netcare 911, uMhlanga Hospital and uShaka Marine World took place and arrangements were made to take the little boy in an ambulance under the constant care of an advanced life support paramedic to interact with the dolphins,” said Botha.

He added that this was an emotional event as people who filled the stands witnessed the boy being carried by medics to the side of the pool. With the song, There is one moment in time playing, the handler slowly brought the massive dolphin closer the child. According to Botha, tears rolled down the faces of the most hardened paramedics. The boy was able to touch and feed the dolphin, and the expression on his face was etched in the hearts of all who witnessed this awesome event.

After the event, paramedics drove the child back to the hospital where he was able to rest for an hour. Paramedics then drove the family to the King Shaka International Airport where the Netcare jet landed with a crew of paramedics. The boy was stabilised for the flight and after he was strapped into a special stretcher, they boarded the aircraft and flew back to Port Elizabeth where he was admitted at a hospital near his home.
