Tighten security at events, warns Malvern SAPS

The robbers made the victims lie down on the floor and proceeded to rob them of their jewellery, wallets, cellphone and car keys and then took off in a car.

FOLLOWING a robbery at a year-end function, the Malvern SAPS have issued a warning to the community. Residents have been advised to ensure that the functions are fully secure.

“An appeal is made to the community hosting year-end functions to ensure security at the events. This advice follows in the wake of a recent event in the Malvern area. A faith-based group were having a meeting and a year-end function for the organisation when six armed men wearing balaclavas stormed the venue,” said Corporate Communications Officer W/O Radhika Marimuthu.

The robbers made the victims lie down on the floor and robbed them of their jewellery, wallets, cellphones and car keys and then took off in a car.

“The K-9 unit also joined the search for the robbers. A case of business robbery has been registered and is being investigated. Anyone with information in this regard can call SAPS Malvern detectives on 031 489 9624 or 489 9629. It will be prudent to ensure that arrangements for security are made and that your security company does regular calls at the venue. Security visibility can deter suspects and thwart their plans,” added W/O Marimuthu.
