Jaws of life used to free two people in Cato Ridge double crash
Four people were injured after a truck jack knifed and collided with the concrete barriers.
FOUR people were injured in a double crash on the N3 in Cato Ridge on Wednesday.
“A truck jack knifed and collided with the concrete barriers in the fast lane. The fire department was moving its fire truck into position when a vehicle came hurtling around the bend and slammed into the rear of the fire engine,” said Chris Botha from Netcare 911.
Botha said paramedics ran to the vehicle and found that two men were seriously injured and were still trapped in the twisted frame of their vehicle.
“Advanced Life support paramedics and their teams stabilised the injured while firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free the two men,” said Botha.
The patients were immobilised on spinal boards and taken to hospitals. In the initial truck crash, the two occupants suffered minor injuries. The road was obstructed while the debris and vehicles were cleared.
