THE Robin Hood Foundation’s Love to Read campaign is in full swing and recently collected hundreds of beautiful books from the educators and learners at Hillcrest Primary School.
The school celebrated Literacy Day with Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday at the end of last year and encouraged each learner to bring in a book to donate.
Annette Swart, an educator at the school said, “I am so passionate about literacy and also about educating and uplifting the youngsters in less fortunate communities. Every single child deserves access to books and resources for learning, education is a human right.”
Kim Griffith Jones, coordinator for The Robin Hood Foundation, said, “What an incredible donation! We are so grateful to Hillcrest Primary School for all these beautiful books that really will make such a difference in the crèches in communities we’ve visited, some of which don’t even have one book for foundation phase learners.”
“Our deadline for donations has been extended to mid-April and we need your help to reach our goal of collecting 10 000 books. If you have any great condition books or educational toys that you’d like to donate in support of the crèches we will be visiting at the end of April. You are also welcome to drop off at any of our friendly drop-off points.”
