Malvern man escapes attempted hijacking and abduction

The victim was left with his vehicle in Isipingo Hills.

A MALVERN resident was accosted and abducted by unknown men who bundled him into his vehicle after he drove into his driveway on Saturday, 8 July.

According to W/O Radhika Marimuthu, communication officer for Malvern SAPS, the suspects drove towards Isipingo. On the way, they asked the man for the pin codes for his bank cards before realising that Malvern SAPS had issued an alert for the vehicle.

“The victim was then left with his vehicle in Isipingo Hills and later transported to the station where the vehicle was sent for DNA and fingerprint processing,” added W/O Marimuthu.

A case of carjacking was registered and is being investigated.

Anyone with information in this regard can call Crime Stop on 0860010111 or SAPS Malvern Detective Branch on 031 4899624/4899629.

Lt-Col Valarine Reddy, Station Commander of Malvern SAPS, said, “This practice of taking the victim with the vehicle and thereafter leaving both the victim and vehicle has occurred in neighbouring police patrol areas.”
