Man arrested with stolen car in Clermont

The car was stolen from a 65-year-old man in Kloof.

A 31-YEAR-MAN who was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 3 August.

According to Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele, members of the Provincial Tactical Response Team were doing their duties on Wednesday in Clermont when they spotted a suspicious looking vehicle along 37th Avenue.

“The driver allegedly abandoned the vehicle when he saw the police. Police gave chase and the man was subsequently arrested,” said Manqele.

He said preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle was hijacked in Kloof on Tuesday, 1 August.

“The 65-year-old victim was closing his gate when he saw two vehicles approaching. Two men came out of the vehicles, one of them pointed a gun at him and another drove off in a victim’s vehicle,” said Manqele.

The man was remanded in custody and will appear again in court on Thursday, 10 August.
