Kloof High entrepreneurs excel

Overall, Kloof High School finished first in the country out of 80 schools in the Allan Gray entrepreneurship challenge.

KLOOF High School entered two teams, the Kloof Leopards and the Kloof High Commerce Extra-Mural Class, into the Allan Gray entrepreneurship challenge 2017.

Both groups consisted of learners from Grade 8 to Grade 11.

They responded to various business-related challenges, questions and scenarios online for a period of seven weeks.

This was a gruelling seven weeks as learners needed to do research and respond tactfully and intelligently to the various challenges posed to them.

“We are proud to announce that our two classes finished third and fifth respectively in South Africa out of 410 teams. Overall Kloof High School finished first in the country out of 80 schools.

“This was only possible because of the collective effort of the learners who participated in this competition,” said the school’s principal, Dawn Lefort.

More than 3 000 learners entered the competition nationwide.

Five of Kloof High School’s learners finished in the top 100 (silver): Asanda Lembede, Aphile Shabalala, Hayden Lawrence, Musa Nkomo and Karabo Mofokate.

Tia Fourie finished in the top 200 (bronze). Both Asanda Lembede and Aphile Shabalala finished in the top 50.

“Four of our learners collectively received complementary weekly prizes to the value of R2 500. These were for the top responses for various individual challenges,” said Dawn.

“Our sincere thanks and congratulations to all who participated in the competition. This was an extremely valuable learning experience.

“We hope to get more learners involved next year and improve on our shortcomings.”
