Armed with lyrics, local artist ready for the world

His high school hall was his first experience with a live audience and he hopes the rest of the world will be his future stage.

YOUNG, passionate and talented hip hop artist, Dinkie started writing at a time when he was overcome with grief and a deep loss.

He was born as Buntu Manjati, but goes by his nickname Dinkie which was given to him by his mother, who passed away in 2009.

The 23-year-old Bellair resident dreams of sharing his music with the whole world.

“I write about my life experience and also what I see around me. My writing began with poetry,” he said.

He is the last born of six children, born on 30 April 1994 in a village called Baziya, in the midst of a little town known as uMtata in the Eastern Cape.

Currently unemployed, the aspiring hip hop artist has three songs released with a 12 track album on its way.

“I would like to travel abroad with my music, I have been told my music is timeless and has no borders,” he said.
