Help Malvern home keep up with costs

This debit order fund-raising project is specifically aimed to raise money to pay the municipal account, which is on average R80 000 per month.

THE Malvern Child and Youth Care Centre appeals to the community to spread a little love by supporting their new Crowd Funding Campaign.

This debit order fund-raising project is specifically aimed to raise money to pay the municipal account, which is on average R80 000 per month.

Despite the introduction of a sustainability strategy last year, the home is not receiving sufficient financial support to implement all its projects and is faced with growing financial challenges each month.

Some of the factors contributing to this scenario include the government subsidy not being increased, despite the rising cost of living, and the economic downturn that has seen a further decrease in corporate social investment.

PR and fund-raising manager, Lee Jarrett, said the home has already changed over to LED lighting and limited solar panels to reduce its electricity cost.

They are also in discussion with a company to assist them in finding a sponsor to install a full self-sustainability project that includes rainwater harvesting.

She added that until then, the children need lights to do their homework and studies, and hot showers before bed.

“While we have seen growth in the community support through donations in kind that helps us tremendously and for which we are extremely grateful, we unfortunately cannot sustain the larger operational costs of a Child and Youth Care Centre of our size without sufficient funding.

“Our 120 children are relying on us to be the family absent in their lives and to provide them with the care they need. We are therefore appealing to anyone who can help to please commit to R100 per month through our debit order facility,” added Jarrett.
