JAMES Wurzel is Kloof Senior Primary School’s SPAR Star of the Month.
The young athlete competes in obstacle course racing (OCR) and is part of the school’s OCR team.
He completed Waterra Heroes in Training Elite last year, where he carried sandbags a third of his weight and was ultimately placed 14th.
This year he has taken on Warrior 3 in Johannesburg at rookie elite level and Obstacle Wars.
James has gained so much obstacle course racing experience at such a young age and, like any athletes, he has ups and downs but never gives up.
At Obstacle Wars he had to do multiple carries and pulls after one another, with one of the carries weighing in at 30kg while he only weighs 45kgs. He has also tried Sprint Course at Warrior.
“He never gave up. He pulled pushed and worked his way through the race and completed it,” said Kloof Senior Primary School’s general admin assistant, Angela Nicholls.
