JOHN Wesley School’s SPAR Star of the Month is Palesa Sibiya (10) and she was chosen for her unbridled passion for swimming.
She learned to swim during her Grade 1 year and her teacher, Kirsty Halloway, soon realised that she was an absolute natural in the water.
She recommended to Palesa’s father, Vusi Sibiya, that he encourage her and he immediately arranged for private swimming lessons.
In her spare time, she attends church with her family, she also loves riding her pink bicycle, reading with her father and playing in the park with her two dogs, Sparky and Speedy.
Palesa is just as comfortable in the sea as she is in the swimming pool and, according to her father, often forgets not to swim too far out beyond the waves.
Palesa would love to learn how to boogie board and surf and would like to one day help other children learn how to swim.
Palesa was recently awarded KZN colours for her outstanding performance at the KZN Christian Schools Sport Association Gala.
“Palesa is an inspirational young lady and is an example to others of what can be achieved through dedication and hard work, we are tremendously proud of her,” said the school’s Darron Tarr.
