ST Mary’s DSG, Kloof’s primary school’s SPAR Star of the Month is Grade 7 learner, Tayla Haslam.
Tayla recently competed in the junior national swimming championships at Kings Park for her SA junior times after completing her Level 3 in 2017.
She made five finals and achieved four 6th positions and one 4th position.
“This is a huge achievement,” said Lisa Abbott, the school’s marketing and communications administrator.
She swims for the Kloof Swimming Club based at St Mary’s and trains daily for an average of two hours.
Tayla is a part of the school swim squad which won the Durban and Districts Girls’ A-League Gala at Kings Park in the first term.
She also plays waterpolo, is in the KZN gymnastics team and trains at the Pinetown Gymnastics Club.
The swimming star draws inspiration from Saints Old Girl and 2018 Commonwealth swimming finalist, Erin Gallagher.
