Olivia is a jump ahead

St Mary's DSG high school SPAR Star of the Month - June 2018.

ST Mary’s DSG high school SPAR Star of the Month is Grade 11 learner, Olivia Garton.

Competing on her horse Phambile, she won the Presidents Cup Competition as she was the only rider after five rounds of show jumping to still be on zero penalties.

Olivia has also been selected to ride in Uzbekistan for the FEI (International Federation for Equestrian Sports) World Jumping Challenge Finals in September representing South Africa.

She is one of the top eight riders awaiting selection to participate in equestrian jumping in the Junior Youth Olympics in Brazil, Buenos Aires later this year.

Olivia began riding when she was five years old and started competing four years later.

She currently trains under top rider and coach, Ronnie Lawrence.

She is a member of the St Mary’s equestrian team and recently achieved a clear ride at the Interschools Equestrian event at the Durban Shongweni Club.

Olivia aims to one day ride in the adults category in the South Africa Champs and Darby one day.

“Olivia and her twin sister, Hannah, are both phenomenal riders and we look forward to following their successes,” said the school’s marketing and communications administrator, Lisa Abbott.
