Suspect arrested in Wyebank in connection with policeman’s murder

It is alleged the 22-year-old suspect was involved in the murder of W/O Clement Fikani Mkhize in August and has also been linked to the murder of another police officer.

A 22-YEAR-OLD suspect appeared in the Umbumbulu Magistrate Court yesterday, Monday, 27 August on two charges of murder.

The suspect was arrested by an integrated team compromising of the Hawks Durban Organised Crime, Crime Intelligence and the National Intervention Unit at Wyebank area near Pinetown in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Hawks spokesman, Capt Simphiwe Mhlongo said it is alleged the suspect was involved in the murder of W/O Clement Fikani Mkhize.

“Mkhize was off duty when he was attacked at his home in Ezigeni Reserve, Umbumbulu, on Saturday, 11 August and later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.”

The arrested suspect is also linked to the alleged murder and robbery of Sergeant Njabulo Linda, who was attacked in June this year.

“Linda was attacked at Malukazi and his service pistol was also stolen. Four suspects Siyabonga Mkhize (22) Zwelithini Mkhize (29), Mlungisi Ndlovu (25) and Siyanda Ngcongo (21) were arrested  in July this year and the suspect is expected to join them on 30 August 2018 at the Durban Magistrate’s Court. All four suspects are still in custody,” said Mhlongo.
