NPO delivers hope to children’s home
CityHope Disaster Relief provided much-needed support and donations, through its network of supporters, for the Edith Benson Babies Home.

THE CityHope Disaster Relief (CHDR) sprang into action and garnered support from the Durban community after the Edith Benson Babies Home in Sherwood was gutted by flames earlier this year.
The home cares for about 60 children aged from birth to five-years old. CHDR, based in Hillcrest, supplied the home with HopeKits that include essentials such as blankets, basic medical supplies, personal hygiene products and vital food items.
Ceri Rayne, the HR manager at Metier Mixed Concrete Pty (Ltd), contacted CHDR and offered financial support to help bring some hope and joy back to the children of the Edith Benson Babies Home.
While the home was blessed with immense support from the community and corporates, it desperately needed a new play area for the newly renovated temporary establishment for the children.

CHDR and Metier combined forces once again and built a large and interactive jungle gym and playground, complete with a magnificent garden of plants and flowers, sponsored by ZHD Studio and Simon’s Pride Nursery.
“This has created a much-needed place of entertainment and opportunity for the little ones to build on their gross motor skills while playing, and CHDR are most grateful to the Metier team and others for their support and generosity,” said the CHDR team’s admin assistant, Sophia Simeoni.
CityHope Disaster Relief is a non-profit organisation that relies wholly on financial donations and in-kind contributions.
