Go green at annual plant sale

THE Drummond Conservancy is excited to host its indigenous plant sale on Saturday, 13 October at Lot 150, No 3 Duiker Drive from 9am to 2pm.

The offering at this year’s sale includes a large range of beautiful indigenous plants and trees. Experts will give advice on plant purchases and the eradication of Alien Invasive Plants (IAP).

A produce table will provide a variety of delicious organic and homemade goodies from Drummond residents that includes goat’s cheese, chicken flatties, gluten free wraps, organic mayonnaise and pesto, jams and pickles, free range eggs, crunchies, rusks, lemons, cut proteas and more.

The Drummond Conservancy is a registered conservancy and has been in operation for more than 25 years.

Its purpose is to encourage residents to be pro-active in caring for the environment as well as the eradication of IAPs and to replace these plants with appropriate indigenous flora.

“By promoting the increase in the variety and number of indigenous plants, birds and other wildlife in the area, the conservancy is creating corridors of green open space along river areas and between properties and fences. The conservancy also acts as an environmental watch dog and reports problems to the relative authorities after consultation with the people involved,” said the Drummond Conservancy’s Felicity von Oettingen.

There will be live background music and food on sale. Craft beer, wine and soft drinks are also available. No dogs allowed as there are loose dogs on the owner’s property. Attendees will also receive free tea or coffee vouchers at the main gate.
