Speedy response averts fecal disaster in Pinetown

Effluent was flowing freely into a nearby river when a sewerage pipe burst in Winston Churchill Drive recently.

ETHEKWINI Water and Sanitation rushed to replace a burst sewerage pipe in Pinetown and averted  a possible health crisis.

“On Tuesday morning, it was reported to me that a 45mm sewerage pipe had been washed away due to soil erosion and was pumping effluent into the Umbilo river near Winston Churchill Drive,” said DA Ward 18 councillor, Melanie Brauteseth.

She immediately contacted the relevant department and was advised that 20m of the pipe was replaced.

“Thanks to the officials for acting so quickly,” said Brauteseth.
