ARMED assailants stole an assortment of products and money to the tune of about R31 000 when they hit a fuel station’s convenience store on the M7 on Saturday, 24 February just before 10 pm.
Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said a case of robbery was opened for investigation.
“The complainant alleged on Sunday, 24 February 2019, 9.52pm, she was performing her duties as a cashier when she was confronted by two suspects who instructed her not to scream.
They held her up at gunpoint, took cash from the till, airtime, cigarettes and fled the scene. A case of robbery was opened at Malvern police station for investigation.”
However, according to Bellair SAPS communication officer, Sgt Pam Pillay, the case was opened at Bellair SAPS as the area where the incident took place is policed by Bellair SAPS and Malvern SAPS had merely assisted by responding to the incident with a patrol car.

Pillay said the men allegedly robbed the business of a cash box as well as helping themselves to products from the store including bubblegum.
“Detectives here are investigating a case of business robbery with weapons having been used,” said Pillay,
In a separate incident on Tuesday, 26 February, seven washing machines were stolen from a truck parked at the same filling station on the M7.
“This incident took place in the early morning,” said Pillay.
“The driver was parked at the same business premises and he was sorting through some paperwork and heard shuffling at the back of his truck.
When he went to look, he saw men unloading the washing machines from his containers into their Hyundai H100 bakkie,” said Pillay.
“We are treating this as a robbery because when the men were confronted by the owner of the truck, they attacked him and tried to force him into their vehicle,” said Pillay adding that the complainant had managed to escape the robbers.
“No weapons were used in the washing machine robbery though,” she said.
Anyone with information about either of these incidents can contact Detective Sgt Sanele Mthethwa on 031 451 2822, or contact Bellair SAPS on 031 451 280.
