Donation rolls in for Highway Hospice

Through its Pink Drive in early February, the Queensburgh Bowling Club raised R3 500 for Highway Hospice.

IN memory of one of its stalwarts and founders, the Queensburgh Bowling Club rallied together and hosted a fund-raiser in support of the Highway Hospice.

At its Pink Day, more than R3 500 was raised through proceeds and individual donations.

“We recently lost Graham Burns, a stalwart of our club,” said a saddened Mark Burgess, the club’s chairman. “He was at Hospice and we wanted to do this in his honour.”

Highway Hospice’s Heather Walker said she was thrilled with the donation. “Thank you to everybody who contributed and to the club for thinking about us,” she said.

The local bowlers have made a pledge to host this fund-raiser each year to help boost the coffers of the local non-profit organisation.

The organisation is in need of an upholsterer to help redo a few of its chairs and is in desperate need of mattress protectors. To make a donation or to view the NPO’s wish list, visit highwayhospice.co.za.
