Durban municipality warns of fake fund-raiser for Mayor Gumede

The scammers are claiming to raise funds for Mayor Mayor Zandile Gumede's legal fees.

Residents have been warned of scammers who claim to be fund-raising on behalf of Mayor Zandile Gumede.

It has come to the municipality’s attention that a group of scammers are allegedly randomly approaching people, requesting for donations towards eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede’s legal fees.

“The municipality would like to warn  residents that Mayor Gumede has not asked for such donations and is not part of the scheme. This is a scam and anyone who is approached by these unscrupulous individuals must report the matter to the nearest police station,” said acting head of the communications unit, Mandla Nsele.

The municipality is investigating the allegations against the Mayor, who has not asked for donations.
