HILLCREST Primary School was eager to spend 67 minutes for worthy causes this Mandela Day.

The junior primary made Ecobricks. The Grade 4 learners partnered with Haley Ellis from Meals on Wheels South Africa to make and distribute much-needed food for underprivileged communities. Each Grade 4 learner was asked to bring a loaf of bread to school and, between Hillcrest Primary School, class donations and Meals on wheels, each learner was provided with sandwich spreads, hairnets and gloves.

In 67 minutes 1 500 sandwiches were made. The first delivery was sent to the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust. The rest were distributed throughout the day to approximately eight different charities.

The Grade 5 learners collected tins of dog food/cat food, dog biscuits, cat kibble, dog/cat beds, blankets, gravy powder, towels and bowls for The KZN Valley Trust.

In addition to the collection of food and goodies, the children donated R4 558, of which R3 600 was raised from the annual Grade 5 cake sale.
