Your lost pet could be at the Kloof and Highway SPCA
If not claimed, on the eight day the animals will be available for adoption.
THE Kloof and Highway SPCA was overwhelmed with stray and unwanted animals during the festive period.
“We are appealing to anyone who has lost their pets to urgently visit our SPCA. Please visit rather than phone as we are completely overwhelmed,” read a post on the Kloof and Highway SPCA Facebook page.

The SPCA also encouraged potential pet owners to consider adopting from the Kloof and Highway SPCA and give an unwanted or an unclaimed stray a second chance.
“Sadly so many pet owners have visited our SPCA looking for their pets and they have not found them here, please be reminded that it is against the law to keep a lost animal and not advise the SPCA. We are the official ‘municipal pound’ for all stray animals, and they need to be kept for seven days to allow their owners an opportunity to claim their missing pets,” the SPCA stated in the post.
If not claimed, on the eighth day the animals will be available for adoption.
Stats of how many animals were admitted to the Kloof and Highway SPCA over the festive season:
90 unwanted and stray dogs
5 injured strays
2 owned dogs euthanised due to the severity of their injuries after being hit by cars (after escaping their property) on New Year’s Eve.
26 unwanted and stray cats
1 injured Python
3 birds
2 rabbits
1 duiker
1 bat
A total of 131 animals.
“Sadly only 11 animals have been claimed by their owners. We are doing our very best to care for and love these animals but they want to be home with their owners. Please help us to care for them and support the Kloof and Highway SPCA,” the organisation pleaded.
