The homeless were also given toothpaste, soap and face clothes.

HIGHWAY Christian Community Church ran an outreach programme for the homeless from 18 December until 10 January.

Donna Walker, from the church, said there were 400 men and women who were fed during this time.

“The church served juice, hot porridge, coffee, sandwiches and cakes at a sit down meal and a take-away parcel of food to carry them through the next day,” said Walker.

The homeless were also given toothpaste, soap and face clothes. “We were blessed with a donation of bread, miele meal and cakes.”

Going forward, Walker said they are going to ask if companies making jam, milk, margarine, peanut butter, sugar brown bags, face clothes and toiletries can assist them.

“We have started a discipleship programme with some men who came to the feeding outreach who showed potential and want to work. This takes place on Wednesdays at our Church situated in 10 Harvey Road,” said Walker. To assist, contact Donna Walker on 082 321 7726 or email donna@highway.org.za
