A MAN has died on the M7 east-bound, where he was allegedly stuck by a vehicle and left lying in the fast lane shortly before the Bellville Road off-ramp to Malvern.
Messages from a variety of motorists on traffic report WhatsApp groups reported that it seemed a pedestrian had been the victim of a hit-and-run.
Authorities were alerted and according to a motorist who spoke to the Highway Mail shortly before noon on Friday, 14 February, but didn’t want to be named, the man had been declared dead on the scene by authorities who had arrived and cordoned off the road.

“Metro is on the scene. The person is dead, there is foil covering the body and the road is blocked off,” said the man who added that since he drives the route often, he always reports incidents he comes across so that people who might need help can be assisted.
“I first saw the body when I was on my way to work this morning,” he explained shortly before 11am today. “The man was lying in the right hand (fast) lane and cars had to swerve to avoid hitting him. At that time there were no authorities on the scene so I sent the voice note to the traffic group to let them know.”
The same man later reported back to the Highway Mail that he had seen the authorities on the scene when he next used the road.
This is a developing story and the Highway Mail has requested information from police at Malvern SAPS and will update this story as more details are released.
