Motivating a culture of reading, one book at a time
The event featured an overview and discussion of previously nominated and selected titles, together with the current book Wounds of Ignorance by Zanele Dlamini.
‘ONE City One Book campaign’ is a milestone event organised by District 9 libraries and the Heritage Department.
The event was held at Westville Civic Centre hall on Wednesday, 11 March to assess whether the objectives of the One City One Book campaign were being met by the various nominated books.

The aim of the campaign is to identify one book which members of the community will read over a determined period of time (approximately a year) then engage with the message and content of the book on various platforms across race, culture, class and gender.
The outcome of this discussion was that One City One Book was meeting the objectives of creating a culture of reading in the City, promoting social cohesion, getting the members of the community to engage with the message and content of the book on various platforms across race, culture, class and gender and creating a platform for critical discussion and debate.
The session was facilitated by Dr Sath Govender, principal at Wyebank Secondary School. The panelists were; Kiru Naidoo, Cedric Sessing, Dr Prakash Singh, Yvette Taylor, Themba Mtshali, Rev Bheki Dube and Senzo Majozi.
