Help Pinetown dad pay son’s medical bills

Prayan Naidoo (12) was diagnosed with a kidney disease at birth.

A PINETOWN father’s biggest wish is to be able to get the best treatment which will help his son recover.

For every year Prayan celebrates his birthday, its truly a blessing for his parents as he was diagnosed with a kidney disease at birth.

The Grade 6 learner at Pinetown Senior Primary School is currently in hospital; he gets admitted from time to time.

His dad, Vinothan Naidoo, said Prayan is a fun, loving and caring child.

“He loves helping people in the community and whatever he has, he likes to share it.”

Naidoo said his son was born with an obstruction to the outflow of his kidneys.

Despite his illness, Prayan is a very active child who participates in sport. He has certificates and medals hanging from his bedroom walls. He plays cricket, loves swimming, hockey and participates in athletics.

His dad said his son is a very positive child who does things that makes him happy.

“He is a fighter.”

Because he is regularly in and out of hospital, Naidoo said Prayan is an average learner.

“The school is aware of his problem and take good care of him and for that I am grateful; I am also thankful to his previous school, Pinetown Junior.

“They know what to do as he can get sick anytime and has to be rushed to hospital. When he is in hospital, he catches up with his schoolwork as the school provides him with notes so he does not get behind.”

The caring father told the Highway Mail that sometimes his son has sleepless nights due to severe pain which causes him discomfort and he is dependent on lots of medication.

“This has been a very challenging journey but we are hoping Prayan will eventually get a kidney transplant and can have a normal life. He has had operations and he is also fitted with a port where his medication goes through,” said Naidoo.

Naidoo pleaded with anyone who can assist with his son’s medical bills as he was recently retrenched.

A letter written by a special paediatrician and paediatric nephrologist reads:

Prayan Naidoo has a severe and chronic form of kidney disease due to a congenital abnormality at birth. He was born with obstruction to the outflow of his urinary tract and as a result of the back pressure on his kidneys with reflux of urine; he also has recurrent attacks of kidney infection.

The cost of his chronic treatment and his repeated hospitalisations are extremely high, especially due to the fact that he requires highly specialised care.
