Man arrested in Pinetown for targeting delivery vehicles

The suspect was positively linked to six other similar crimes in Pinetown CBD.

A MAN was arrested in the Pinetown CBD after he was seen forcefully opening the canopy of a parked vehicle.

According to eThekwini District communications officer, Captain Carmen Rhynes, the victim’s vehicle was parked on Josiah Gumede Road on Monday, 27 July when the canopy of his vehicle was forced open and perishable goods were stolen.

“An alert security officer from Nehlo Mamba Security witnessed the incident and arrested the suspect.

“Detective Constable SC Zuma from Pinetown SAPS with the help of Lt/Col MJ Ogle profiled the suspect and all similar cases reported in July 2020,” said Rhymes.

Police managed to positively link the suspect to six other similar crimes in the Pinetown CBD targeting delivery vehicles.

The suspect was charged and appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 29 July where Det/Cst Zuma objected bail. The accused was remanded at Pinetown SAPS.

eThekwini district commissioner, General Vukani Mgobhozi said, “This is excellent detective work. I commend the team’s effort to ensure a habitual criminal is put behind bars.”
