Durban sisters create hope for 18 new moms
The caring duo hope to reach out an empower at least 982 more mothers of newborns.

TIRELESS fund-raising by two Upper Highway girls, Mikayla and Julie Eksteen, saw them fill up and donate their first batch of 18 Bags of Hope to The Robin Hood Foundation.

Each bag contains all of the essentials needed by a mom and her newborn.
“There are nappies for a newborn, towelling nappies, Snappi, bum cream, cream for mom, sanitary pads, a mask, breast pads, soap, a cloth and burp cloth, a blanket and a receiving blanket, a dummy, beanies, booties, a teddy and baby clothing from birth through to 6 to 12 months,” said a proud Julie.
They both said the support they have received from friends, family and the community felt like a blessing.
“We want these moms to have that helping hand they so desperately need in this very harsh and scary world,” said Mikayla.

The duo hope to make 1 000 bags and said they still have a long road ahead of them to reach that target.
“Please continue to help us. Contribute what you can on our BackaBuddy page. R5 buys a soap,” said Julie.
Mikayla said that each donation counts and that old towels could be used to make fabric nappies and that old school bags could be reused as nappy bags.
They thanked each person who has donated towards their ongoing Bags of Hope project.
