Pinetown SAPS to raise GBV awareness during motorcade

Pinetown SAPS have partnered with various organisations to host a motorcade on Friday, 27 November.

IN an effort to raise awareness during the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence campaign, Pinetown SAPS have partnered with various organisations to host a motorcade on Friday, 27 November.

The two-hour motorcade is set to depart from Pinetown and travel past Caversham Pick n Pay, into New Germany and back to Pinetown.

Some of the organisations and services involved in the parade include, Metro Police, Safer Cities, the local Community Police Forum, SANTACO, Ethembeni Crisis Centre, Life Line Durban, KZN Community Safety and Liaison.

Speaking about the upcoming parade, Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Captain Bongumusa Manqele said, “We are going to use a mega phone and pamphlets to share information during our motorcade parade. We have made sure that both men and women are equally involved in this campaign because this is everyone’s problem, we are all affected. Even after the parade, we will continue working hard to find solutions to solve this prevailing problem.”

“As Pinetown SAPS, we have revamped our station facilities to make them more comfortable and friendly for the debriefing of gender-based violence cases. However, we are still facing the challenge of victims not reporting their perpetrators. Unfortunately, we can only take action once a case has been formally opened. Therefore, we urge the victims to meet us half way and stop protecting these offenders. We hope that our continued efforts to encourage people to speak out, will soon yield positive results,” added Manqele.
