Mariannhill temple closed for Kavady

The local temple will instead host its daily prayers via livestream.

DUE to the Covid-19 pandemic, the temple council made the decision to close the Mariannhill Shri Siva Soobramoniar Alayam temple indefinitely and will run the 2021 Thaipoosam Kavady via live streaming from Tuesday, 19 January to Thursday, 28 January.

“In light of the above, the following procedure will be applied during the 10 days of the Kavady. The daily 10-day prayers will be performed only by the resident priest. No devotees or members of the public will be allowed on the temple property during the daily prayers. We request all devotees to observe their fast and join in the daily prayer via live streaming. There will be no flag hoisting/dehoisting taking place,” said the chairman, Seelan Pillay.

The temple committee has appealed for donations in cash and kind, as it relies heavily on donations.
