Chiltern AC launches 8km programme for beginners
Whether you’d like to start walking, progress to running, or just become stronger, Chiltern AC Scratch Club will help you take that first step.
EVERYONE has to start somewhere. Why not start from Scratch? Chiltern Athletic Club invites residents from Westville and surrounding areas to its Scratch Club, a friendly and supportive eight-week programme for people of all fitness levels.
Sonia Evans, Chiltern AC ladies captain, said the programme gradually builds your distance and confidence, with the goal of helping you comfortably complete 8km by the end of the eight weeks.

Sessions take place at Chiltern AC every Tuesday and Thursday at 17:30, starting on September 8. Each session begins with a light warm-up before the groups head out at 17:45 on carefully selected routes.
“One of the strengths of Scratch Club is the support you receive along the way. There are volunteers and marshals positioned along the routes, while dedicated walk, run/walk and running leaders guide and encourage participants throughout the programme.”

She advised that you don’t need to be fit to join.
“Participants are divided into groups according to their current fitness and ability, including walking, run/walk and running groups. This allows everyone to progress at a pace that is comfortable and achievable for them.
“Most importantly, Scratch Club is about the individual. Whether your goal is to improve your health, get fitter, start running, meet new people or simply challenge yourself to do something new, the Chiltern team will be there to encourage you every step of the way,” said Evans.
